This article defines transport under the NDIS and links to articles explaining how to capture transport for claiming in Lumary 15. For more current information on transport in Lumary 16, see this article.
Transport involves a worker accompanying a participant on a community outing and/or transporting a participant from their home to the community.
Service providers can only claim for transport costs if a participant has transport funding included in their plan, or the service agreement outlines the expected transport costs, any additional contributions and how these costs will be paid.
Accompanying participants for community access
Providing community access supports may, at the request of a participant, involve a worker accompanying a participant on a community outing and/or transporting a participant from their home to the community. In these situations, the worker’s time can be claimed at the hourly rate for the relevant service item for the total time the worker provides support to one or more participants, including time spent accompanying and/or transporting the participant.
If a provider is transporting two or more participants on the same trip, the worker’s time should be claimed at the appropriate group rate for the relevant support.
Contribution to additional transport costs
If a provider incurs costs other than the cost of a worker’s time when accompanying and/or transporting a participant in the community, they may negotiate with the participant for them to make a reasonable contribution towards these costs. For example, this could include a contribution towards the cost of a ticket for public transport. The participant’s support budget will need to include funding for transport for these types of contributions, which should be clearly specified in the service agreement.
